A benefit 5K-walk-run will be held in Carrollton this Saturday, October 13th.  Organizer Cynthia Barber says the event, called “Walk with My Father Against Domestic Violence,” starts at 11 a.m. at the Standley Branch walking trail located just east of the high school.

“We’re going to start at the shelter on the south side then we’re going to go north,” she says, following the new path “by the hospital around on Jefferson, down on 10th street then take a couple extra laps around the old trail.”

The $20 registration fee will go toward House of My Father, the local shelter for battered women and children.

“They’re wanting to expand to create some more rooms for the women and children,” but adds “they also need a retaining wall to be repaired.”

Those interested in participating should be at the Standley Branch walking trail-south pavilion before 11 a.m. Saturday.  Click here to email for more information, call 660-815-3728 or check our their Facebook page
