The former president and CEO of Mamtek appeared in court Thursday before a new judge. Bruce Cole, 65, is accused of inappropriately using funds from a $39 million bond that was intended to build an artificial sweetener factory in Moberly. The new Judge, Russell Steele is from Adair County and heard motions from both the defense and prosecution including a request by the defense asking for more information from the state regarding witnesses and any possible deals made with said witnesses. Prosecutor Sean Smith objected. The defense also made another motion for a Change of Venue and a third motion to reduce bond. Judge Steele made no decisions on those motions, but did sustain a request for the defendant to be allowed more communication time with his attorney and wife. The next court date has not yet been set and Cole remains incarcerated on $500-thousand bond.
