Man charged in death of Lee’s Summit driver

LEE’S SUMMIT, MO – One driver has been charged in the death of a second motorist in the aftermath of a vehicle accident.

According to Lee’s Summit police, emergency crews were dispatched to 291 Highway and Swann Road for reports of a two-vehicle crash Sunday morning. An investigation indicated a truck driven by Steven S. Ontiveros, 28, ran a red stoplight and hit a second vehicle crossing the road. The second driver, Christopher N. Coffelt, 41, was taken to an area hospital where he died of injuries.

Ontiveros faces charges of driving while intoxicated, causing the death of another. Bond is set at $100,000.
