Officials with the Highway Patrol have identified the suspect that was shot and killed during a traffic stop Monday night. The highway patrol announced Wednesday afternoon that Thomas E. Schroeder, 50, of Omaha, Nebraska was in possession of several drivers’ licenses and other forms of identification. That discovery made positive identification difficult.  Investigators were able to make the correct identification Tuesday evening after contacting family members. A highway patrol trooper stopped a vehicle on I-29 near Craig just after 8:00 p.m. Monday. During the stop Schroeder was suspected of DWI and the trooper attempted to place Schroeder under arrest when he became combative and fought with the officer. During the fight the trooper fatally shot the suspect. The unidentified officer is on paid administrative leave during the investigation which is on-going.
