Tests are underway to determine the origin of an elk hit on Highway 13 near Clinton, Mo Wednesday.  There is no evidence connecting the animal to the herd released in south central Missouri last year.  The Department of Conservation reports the animal was lacking tags or markings so it’s likely from a private facility or wandering from out of state.  Tests for disease are being conducted on the animal.  Pending those results the meat will be donated as appropriate.
