The annual Chillicothe Middle School book fair gets underway Monday. Click to hear KMZU’s Kristie Cross talk to Librarian Lorenda Davison:
According to officials, the event is a significant benefit to the school. “I do not take any of the money in cash, but instead take it all in books,” said Davison,” Every year our funds seem to be less and less, while the prices of books are more and more. If I took the cash, we would only get half of what we receive by taking book credits. We use this event to help stock our library.”
Davison said it can also be a benefit to the reading habits of students. “It is amazing,” said Davison,” A child will check out a book from the library and may or may not read it, but when they buy a book of their own, they almost always tend to read it. In the rare case that they don’t, usually someone else in the household will. That’s what it’s all about. Read every day and lead a better life. That’s Scholastic’s them and what we believe, as well.”
The fair will be open 30 minutes both before and after school each day through Friday.
For those who choose, there is also an option to purchase items online by visiting www.scholastic.com/schoolbookfairs and choosing the city, state, and school.
