Missouri Department of Agriculture 2018 photo contest winners announced

The 2018 Best in Show winner “Pure Joy” by Jody Teague of Cole Camp, Missouri.

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — More than 20 winners were recently chosen for the Missouri Department of Agriculture’s 2018 Focus on Missouri Agriculture Photo Contest.

“The beauty and diversity of Missouri agriculture has been perfectly captured by this year’s talented amateur photographers,” said Director of Agriculture Chris Chinn. “These images capture the hard work and dedication of the many family farms across the state.”

Individuals 13 years old and older submitted photos into the following five categories: Beauty of the Farm, Faces of the Farm, Farm Selfie, Farmer’s Life and Pride of the Farm. Children 12 years old and younger entered their submissions into the Children’s Barnyard category.

This year’s winners include:

Beauty of the Farm:

1st Place: “Early Morning Walk” by Betsy O’Neal of Cabool, Missouri

Runner-Up: “Slowly Coming Along” by Kimberly Patke of Villa Ridge, Missouri

Honorable Mention: “Bloom Groomer” by Aaron Baker of Lawson, Missouri

Honorable Mention: “Hay Season” by Caleb Hawkins of Napoleon, Missouri

Faces of the Farm:

1st Place: “Spraying Pastures” by Pam Thompson of Lohman, Missouri

Runner-Up: “Oink” by Ashley Homan of Pilot Grove, Missouri

Honorable Mention: “Pop-Pop’s Little Helper” by Wendy Hall of Liberty, Missouri

Honorable Mention: “Howdy Neighbor” by Carolyn Buhman of Clarksdale, Missouri

Farm Selfie:

1st Place: “Juliet” by Lindsay Mercer of Cole Camp, Missouri

Runner-Up: “Curious” by Jon Wilson of Ava, Missouri

Honorable Mention: “Uncle Paul” by Tricia Wisbrock of Fenton, Missouri

Honorable Mention: “Sneaking a Lick” by TJ Bruner of Jacksonville, Missouri

The Farmer’s Life:

1st Place: “Farmer and Tractor” by Emily Meneely of Wheeling, Missouri

Runner-Up: “Hard Days Work” by Jody Teague of Cole Camp, Missouri

Honorable Mention: “Waitin’ on the Water” by Ashley Homan of Pilot Grove, Missouri

Honorable Mention: “Farmer Mechanic” by Lacey Miller of Palmyra, Missouri

Pride of the Farm:

1st Place: “Old and New” by Michaela Carroll of Deepwater, Missouri

Runner-Up: “Branding Day” by Lacey Miller of Palmyra, Missouri

Honorable Mention: “Dairy Beauty” by Aubrey Fletcher of Purdy, Missouri

Honorable Mention: “Gooseberry Harvest” by Juliane Sykes of Chillicothe, Missouri

Children’s Backyard:

1st Place: “Good Morning” by Clara Wallace of Vandalia, Missouri

Runner-Up: “Eye on the Soul” by Caroline Volner of Saint James, Missouri

Honorable Mention: “Farm Traffic Jam” by Asher Ahrens of Jackson, Missouri

Honorable Mention: “Better than a Playground” by Emma Bell of Bucklin, Missouri

After choosing the winners, the MDA shared each photo on the organization’s Facebook page for the public to help choose the People’s Choice Award. The winner, Jon Wilson of Ava, Missouri, was chosen based on the amount of shares, comments and likes he received on his photo “Curious” between June 20-30.

The overall 2018 Best in Show winner was Jody Teague of Cole Camp, Missouri, for her photo “Pure Joy”.

All winning photos can currently be viewed on the MDA’s Flickr stream. Additionally, each photo will be displayed in the Agriculture Building at the Missouri State Fair from Aug. 9-19, 2018.
