Missouri Pork Expo

The Missouri Pork Expo is underway in Columbia, Mo.  The Missouri Pork Producers Association promotes the event as the largest show in the state fully dedicated to the hog industry.  KMZU’s Janet Adkison was on hand Wednesday visiting with exhibitors and farmers.  Click the following links to hear her reports…

Several hundred people gather in Columbia each year for the annual Pork Expo.  While the event brings together industry leaders and hog producers, it also draws a large number of FFA members.  The students participate in educational activities and the annual public speaking contest.   Cole Edwards of Salisbury won the top prize in the statewide speaking challenge.  Janet caught up with Cole before he delivered his speech.

The PAC fundraising auction is a tradition at the Missouri Pork Expo. A silent auction is held throughout the day followed by a live auction during the evening banquet.

The Pork Expo includes a variety of educational sessions throughout the two day event.

Booth space during the Expo was in high demand. The Missouri Department of Conservation used the event to connect with farmers provide information about feral hogs.

Tim Safranski is the University of Missouri Extension Swine specialist.  He hosted the PQA educational session Wednesday morning.  On Thursday he’ll offer a program on the animal rights movement.

Tim Harris is a hog producer from Waverly.  Harris says the Expo is a great place to learn the latest techniques and technology for raising hogs.

The Missouri Department of Conservation uses the annual convention as a place to connect with hog producers.  Spokesperson Clint Dalbom says the feral hog population in southern Missouri is one of the hot topics.
