The recent snow storms marked the first true weather events since the Missouri Department of Transportation was struck by substantial budget cuts. Click to hear KMZU’s Kristie Cross talk to Customer Relations Manager Melissa Black:
A drill held during the fall helped prep crews for this week’s response. “I would say we really just found our groove and everybody did what they were suppose to do and I think we did a pretty good job of it out there,” said Black, “Could we use more trucks and people? Sure. But I think everyone did their jobs and made it work.”
Staffing changes following recent the cuts did change things up a bit. “We have tried to keep our number of boots on the ground the same, “said Black, “The total number of people out there is not much different, it’s just a matter of where they’re located. We have at least one major maintenance facility in each county and some even have two. We just moved a few people around and tried to concentrate them in areas where they are most needed.”
According to Black, they will review their response further in coming weeks and make any adjustments as necessary.
