MoDOT Releases Project List

The Missouri Department of Transportation released a list of projects Friday that could receive funding if voters in August approve a sales tax increase dedicated to transportation.

The state Highways and Transportation Commission is accepting public comments on the projects, which together are estimated to cost $4.8 billion. A breakdown of projects by region and a look at some of the projects:

REGIONS:

Northeast has 135 projects that would cost $203 million.

Northwest has 132 projects that would cost $195 million.

Kansas City has 39 projects that would cost $897 million.

Central has 94 projects that would cost $486 million.

St. Louis has 94 projects that would cost $1.488 billion.

Southwest has 231 projects that would cost $643 million.

Southeast has 95 projects that would cost $387 million.

PROJECTS:

INTERSTATE 70: Widen to three lanes in each direction between suburban Kansas City and suburban St. Louis. There also would improvements to I-70 in the St. Louis area between Natural Bridge and Hanley roads and the I-70 and I-170 interchange.

U.S. 50: Add lanes between California, Missouri, and Tipton with a two-lane alternate route around Tipton. Add lanes from Tipton to Morgan County.

U.S. 65: Add intermittent passing lanes between Warsaw, Missouri, and Buffalo, Missouri. A loop within Springfield would be improved to interstate highway standards.

U.S. 60: Add lanes from the Kansas Expressway to U.S. 65 in Springfield.

INTERSTATE 270: Improvements between Lindbergh Boulevard and Missouri 367 in north St. Louis County to address safety and congestion problems.

INTERSTATE 64: Add eastbound lane between Missouri 141 and Clarkson Road in west St. Louis County. Add lanes from Missouri K to I-70.

INTERSTATE 435: Add lanes and improve bridges in Jackson County from the Kansas border to I-49.

MISSISSIPPI RIVER BRIDGE: Replace the Champ Clark Bridge over the Mississippi River in Louisiana, Missouri.

MISSOURI RIVER BRIDGE: Replace the Broadway Bridge over the Missouri River in Kansas City.

AIRPORTS: Improvements to runway, hangars, runway approach and taxiways at the Springfield-Branson National Airport. The Columbia Regional Airport would get a new terminal with improvements to the parking lot and runway. Improvements for freight would be completed at Lambert-St. Louis International Airport. Work would be completed at airports in Kirksville, Lee’s Summit, Jefferson City, Camdenton, Lebanon, Missouri, Osage Beach, Monett, Clinton, Joplin, Neosho, Poplar Bluff and West Plains.

RAIL: Improvements would be made at Amtrak stations in Jefferson City and Kirkwood. Funding would be contributed to repair the Merchants railroad bridge across the Mississippi River in St. Louis, and bottlenecks would be removed in Bonnots Mill. Work would be done to connections at the Kansas City, SEMO and New Bourbon ports.
