Press Release from the Missouri Department of Transportation
SPRINGFIELD – Potential buyers and bargain hunters will soon line up to bid on surplus items from the Missouri Department of Transportation.
MoDOT has scheduled two public auctions, on Sept. 13 in Springfield and Sept. 20 in Sarcoxie. These auctions are a result of the department’s Bolder Five-Year Direction, a plan of action that began in 2011 to address Missouri’s severe decline in transportation funding.
“The department now operates with fewer employees and facilities, and we don’t need all the equipment and tools we had when we were a larger organization,” said MoDOT General Services Director Deborah Rickard. “These auctions are part of our tiered approach to sell unneeded equipment and recoup an estimated $44 million from equipment reductions across the state.”
MoDOT first redistributed some of its equipment to the remaining MoDOT buildings around the state. The department has also offered excess equipment to other state agencies and municipalities. The public auctions on Sept. 13 and Sept. 20 are two of at least ten auctions around the state to sell the remaining supplies and equipment that MoDOT no longer needs.
The Sept. 13 auction begins at 9:30 a.m.at the MoDOT maintenance facility at 4101 W. Sunshine in Springfield. A list of available items and other auction details can be found at http://www.crawfordauctionservice.com/event/modot-surplus-auction.
The Sept. 20 auction begins at 9:30 at the MoDOT maintenance facility on West Highway 37 in Sarcoxie. The auction flyer is available at www.crawfordauctionservice.com/event/modot-surplus-auction-sarcoxie-facility.
Arrangements are still being made for the additional public auctions around the state. To find out when and where those auctions will occur, check http://www.modot.org/ or “like” the Missouri Department of Transportation on Facebook.
