The Sedalia Public Works Department will be spraying for mosquitoes over the next couple of days. Click to hear KMZU’s Kristie Cross speak with Public Works Director Bill Beck:
All spraying will be done between the hours of 2:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. “We do have some beautiful foliage in this part of the state and, unfortunately, that draws mosquitoes. We’ve done as much study as anyone around here probably on what we can do to deal with these little critters. We have mosquitoes that like to come out in the morning time and others that come out at night. So, our guys get out and spray between 2:00 and 6:00 in the morning trying to catch both types out.”
Beck addressed a concern residents may have. “We use a product that’s as safe as anything we can find,” said Beck, “It’s called Anvil 2 plus 2 and it is federally approved by EPA.”
Beck added the treatment may not solve everyone’s mosquito issues. “The best way to deal with mosquitoes is on a personal basis,” said Beck, “We can’t get in and dump people’s spare tires laying around the house. Also, areas in the yard that collect water are breeding grounds for mosquitoes. Some of the types like to get up in foliage. We can only hit the ones that do get out and fly around while they’re flying around.”
Tomorrow, crews will work from Broadway Avenue to the south city limits.
On Wednesday, the department will once again start at Broadway and work to the north city limits.
