Charges are pending in a motor vehicle accident that happened on Northbound Highway 13.

According to police reports, 23-year-old Jacob Markley of Bates City was traveling at a high rate of speed and laid his motorcycle on its side while trying to avoid striking a vehicle in front of him. The motorcycle slid for nearly 300 feet before coming to rest. Markley was transported to an area hospital for treatment of his injuries.

Court records show Markley also had a traffic violation back in June of this year.
