BOONE COUNTY, Mo. — A plea deal was struck in a Boone County murder case Monday afternoon.

Brian Hakeem Smith, 19, of Columbia, changed his plea to guilty over the 2016 shooting death of Keith Chambers, 33, during what police say was an attempted robbery during a drug deal.

Smith pleded guilty to a felony count of robbery, reduced to the second degree and armed criminal action. Second degree murder and unlawful use of a weapon charges were dismissed by the prosecutor.

Smith is now sentenced to 15 years on each count, with both to be served concurrently in the Missouri Department of Corrections.
