MVC Rodeo gains a couple weekend titles at the Viking Stampede Rodeo

MARSHALL, Mo. (MVC Press Release)- The Missouri Valley College men’s and women’s rodeo teams hosted the Viking Stampede Rodeo over the weekend at the Saline County Fairgrounds in Marshall, Mo.  Both teams capture a championship, with five individuals winning their respective competitions.

On the men’s side, Senior Dalton Kingery (Monroe, Iowa) captured the bareback riding competition with a final point total of 170.  Senior Matt Borton (Ostego, Iowa) finished second with 135 points in the event.  Kingery then won the saddle bronc riding event with a 170.  He was followed by Junior Briar Dittmer (Runnells, Iowa) who finished with a score of 110.  In steer wrestling, Senior Fenton Nelson (Iowa Falls, Iowa) finished second with a score of 110.  Junior Justin Stoltz (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) won the bull riding event with a final score of 60 points, followed by Dittmer who finished third with 50 points.

The women’s team was led by Junior Breanna Ellis (Clarion, Iowa) who won in breakaway roping with a score of 140 points.  The goat tying event was won by Freshman Kaitlyn O’Leary with 180 points, with Junior Kirby Crouse (Gallatin, Mo.) finishing third with 75 points.  Junior Mallory Willard (Swisher, Iowa) placed third in barrel racing with 90 points.

The Viking men’s rodeo team captured a championship with 865 points, finishing ahead of second place Southern Arkansas University’s 640 points.  The MVC women’s rodeo team finished atop the standings with 240 points, beating out second place Southern Arkansas which scored 190 points.

Up next for the rodeo teams is the University of West Alabama rodeo in Livingston, Ala., Sept. 29-Oct. 1.
