Don’t Miss the Talent Search and New Rockin’ Tattoo Competitions

(SEDALIA, Mo.) – The quest to honor the best in competitive areas at the Missouri State Fair goes beyond the livestock show ring. This year, several new contests, and a returning favorite, will give fairgoers the opportunity to compete in a variety of areas, from vocals to body art.  Registration is underway for some, while others can be entered the day of the contest. All promise to be entertaining and add excitement to the competition schedule at this year’s Missouri State Fair.

A new three-day talent contest, coordinated by a former Dallas Cowboy Cheerleader, will be held Aug. 15-17.  The Stage on Fire: Ultimate Dance and Talent Competition will be held in the Show-Me Tent starting at 9 a.m. each day. Both individual and groups of vocalists, dancers and variety act performers can compete for the chance to win cash prizes up to $1,000.

Entries for this competition are being accepted in multiple age divisions, starting as young as three.  Competitors age three to 14 must register by Friday, July 26, while competitors 15 and older have until Friday, Aug. 2.  More information about the contest, including the entry fee, is available at the special contests page on the Fair’s website.

Two new contests, in the spirit of two popular Fair concerts, have been added to the 6 p.m. Touchstone Energy Stage daily contest schedule.  The Red Solo Cup Stacking Contest, named for Toby Keith’s hit song will occur the day of his Aug. 16 concert, and the Rockin’ Tattoo Competition, with a nod to the Hinder and Three Days concert, takes place Aug. 17.

Contestants in the Red Solo Cup Stacking Contest will compete in a timed event to see who can stack the most cups.  The on-the-spot contest does not require an entry fee or registration, and the winner will receive one minute in the Fair’s Money Madness Machine to win cash prizes and coupons.

The Rockin’ Tattoo Competition Saturday, Aug. 17, is also free to enter.  The contest does have some restrictions and participant hopefuls must register the day of the contest at 5 p.m. at the Touchstone Energy Stage.  Qualified entrants will be judged by a panel of Missouri tattoo artists, with the winner receiving a minute in the Money Madness Machine and two grandstand tickets to the Hinder and Three Days Grace concert. For more information, visit the special contests page.

Registration is underway through July 26 for the Missouri State Fair Idol Contest, which is in its eighth year on the Budweiser Stage.  The popular contest will run Aug. 8-18, with the top two winners receiving $500 and $250 cash prizes.  Bimbo Bakeries, owner of brands Oroweat, Sara Lee, Thomas’ and Nature’s Harvest, is sponsoring the Idol Contest and will be providing all participants with bakery items as well.

The 111th Missouri State Fair, themed, “Chicks Dig It!,” will be held Aug. 8-18 in Sedalia.  For more information about these contests and other Fair events, visit, follow the Fair on Facebook and Twitter, or call 1-800-422-FAIR (3247).
