CARROLLTON, Mo.- Missouri is expected to draw thousands of visitors to the state which could make for cramped highways. Amtrak and MoDOT’s state-sponsored Missouri River Runner trains can get you to the best viewing places in mid-Missouri on August 21, 2017, for the total solar eclipse.

Tickets are still available for same-day trips to and from mid-Missouri from St. Louis, Mo., and Kansas City, Mo. Several communities along the route will be hosting eclipse events, with perhaps the largest being at the state capitol in Jefferson City, Mo.

Amtrak Train 314 leaves Kansas City at 8:14 a.m., and Amtrak Train 311 leaves St. Louis at 9:15 a.m., with both scheduled to arrive in Jefferson City before 12:00 p.m. Intermediate points included Independence, Lee’s Summit, Warrensburg, Sedalia, Hermann, Washington, and Kirkwood.
