The Norborne Lady Pirates displayed why they are the top seed in the Class 1 District 12 basketball tournament Wednesday night with a 59 – 20 victory over the Brunswick Lady Wildcats. Michaela Coats led all scorers with 17. Megan Shannon added 15 and Cheyanne Baxter scored 10 for the Lady Pirates. On the Brunswick side Chelsea Lee Manson was their leading scorer with 8.
The other girls game from Class 1 District 12 in Norborne Wednesday night was much closer as Tina-Avalon pulled the slight upset over number two seed Hale 36 – 33. The Lady Dragons Kelsey Garber had 16 to lead all scorers. Senior Quincy Copple had 11 points in her last basketball game for the Hale Lady Cardinals.
That sets the stage for the Class 1 District 12 girls championship game between the Norborne Lady Pirates and the Tina-Avalon Lady Dragons. Weather permitting that game is scheduled for Friday at 6 p.m. The matchup will be broadcast on 103.9 The Grenade.
The semifinals are up next for the boys in Class 3 District 14. Top seed Lafayette County C-1 will face St. Paul and Richmond is scheduled to take on Knob Noster. The original bracket called for those games to be played Thursday night. With the current weather situation it seems likely they will try for those games on Friday evening.
