Oak Grove Teen Killed in Crash

A crash in Jackson County on Friday left an Oak Grove teenager dead.  The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office reports a 46-year-old Buckner resident was northbound on Mecklin School Road when he crested a hill and found the vehicle driven by Joseph Scott, 17, in his lane of travel.  Scott was pronounced dead at the scene.  The Buckner man was transported to a nearby hospital with injuries that are not considered life-threatening.

On 11-23-2012 at approximately 3:45 p.m., Jackson County, Missouri Sheriff’s Office received a call regarding a head on crash on Mecklin School Road north of Truman Road. The location, just north of Oak Grove, is in unincorporated Jackson County, MO.

Upon arrival, the deputy contacted one of the drivers, a 46 year old man from Buckner, MO. He stated he was north bound on Mecklin School Road, began to crest a hill, and noticed a red Pontiac Grand Am in his lane of travel. He stated he attempted to avoid the crash, although he was unable, and the two cars collided.

Sni Valley Fire and EMS Personnel stated the driver of the Grand Am died at the scene. He was identified as 17 year old Joseph Scott from Oak Grove, MO.

The Bucker man was checked out at a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Both were believed to be wearing their seat belts.

The Sheriff’s Office requested the assistance of an accident reconstructionist from Independence, MO Police Department to determine the exact cause of the crash. The results of such will be released upon their completion.
