The Lexington Fire Department was called to the old feeder mill near 24th and Monroe about 11:45 Wednesday night.

The structure is being torn down and a fire broke out in the basement. The three story structure was engulfed in smoke when crews arrived. Firefighters had to maneuver around large machinery and other heavy equipment as they fought the blaze.

Assistant Fire Chief Brad Weber says everyone worked together with cooperating departments from the surrounding areas and got the job done safely.

Assistant Chief Weber adds that no estimate on damage costs will be made since the demolition of the building is already underway, and nothing of value was damaged.
