The old Fitzgibbon Hospital has been officially placed on the National Register of Historic Places. Commissioner Monte Fenner said this should make the property more marketable. “It will be on that register, but it doesn’t effect what can be done with the building,” said Fenner,” This is a misconception many people have. It will still be on the register, but this building could be used for several different things depending on what the owner wants to do with it.”
Fenner said the designation could bring new life to the property. “Hopefully something will come along so that we can use this facility because it is a historic site and also has some usefulness to it,” said Fenner.
The designation was announced during a meeting of the Saline County Historic Preservation Commission Thursday night.
