Buckler said he is grateful to have been selected for the position. “I appreciate the opportunity that the mayor and board of aldermen have given me. I hope to have many more years of service with the city.” Buckler has worked for the city since 1987. He served as assistant chief for 12 years prior to his promotion.

Buckler added he hasn’t made many changes during his time as chief. “The previous chief had been here for 30 plus years. Obviously he wasn’t doing anything wrong or he wouldn’t have lasted as long as he did. So, I’ve just tried to continue the same type of good service and relations with the community that have been a strong point of the department for years.”

Buckler stepped into the position in June of 2012, following the retirement of Bob Kinder.
