CLAY COUNTY, Mo. — A man accused of arson and murder in the deaths of his two children will go before a judge in Clay County Friday.

36-year-old Randy M. Garrison was accused in 2016 of two counts of second degree murder over the 2013 deaths of his two young sons.

According to court documents, two young boys were found dead inside of a trailer home in Orrick in December 2013 after a devastating fire.

Garrison told police he had returned home from work early on a morning in December 2013 and went to sleep. He said he was awoken when he heard screaming and noticed flames and smoke inside his bedroom.

He told officers he made an attempt to rescue his young sons, however said he tripped over a cord tied to a bedroom door.

Forensics experts examined Garrison’s clothing and body following the incident and found no evidence to corroborate his claim he had attempted to save the children. Prosecutors also allege the fire began due to Garrison’s attempted manufacture of methamphetamine inside of the residence.

Garrison has faced lengthy court proceedings, and has had charges against him upgraded multiple times. The case was also moved from Ray County to Clay County.

He now faces two felony counts each of second degree murder and abandonment of a child. He is also charged with felony first degree arson resulting in death.

Garrison is currently in custody, held without bond. He has a hearing scheduled in a Clay County courtroom at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, April 20.
