Like many area counties, tough decisions had to be made in the balancing effort.  “We have done some employee transfers to where we’re not filling a position or two,” said Meehan, “Because of all that, we were able to balance a budget for 2013.  The general revenue budget is $6.6 million and, in addition to that, the road and bridge which takes care of  the almost 900 miles of roads in Pettis County is balanced at $7.6 million.”

According to the commissioner, the numbers are a slight increase over last year.  “It is slightly more because we had some carry over from last year and the year before,” said Meehan, “We have been very frugal with our funds and don’t spend it unless we absolutely have to do so.”

Meehan described it as a “flat budget” and said funds would be used to simply maintain county roads, as well as the courthouse and jail facility.
