Police chief accused of stealing, forgery

CALIFORNIA, MO – A former chief of police has been charged with stealing and forgery.

A warrant, issued Wednesday, lists Michael Ward as charged with two counts of stealing, and one count of forgery. Court records indicate bond is set at $25,000. Ward is accused of selling firearms for personal gain that were bought with city funds, and forging timesheets for another officer.

Ward was the police chief in California, Missouri. He resigned this month.
