(Update 11:05 a.m.) – Police are looking into an apparent murder-suicide involving a player with the Kansas City Chiefs.  The incident was first reported at about 8:00 a.m. Saturday at a home in the 5400 block of Chrysler Avenue.  Police said the unidentified Chiefs player is believed to have shot and killed his girlfriend.  He then reportedly drove to the Chiefs practice facility near Arrowhead Stadium and killed himself.

A police spokesman described the scene at the first shooting.  “When we arrived, a lady had come out to say her daughter had been shot by her boyfriend several times inside the residence.  We went into the residence and she was taken to an area hospital where she died a short time later,” said Officer Darrin Snapp.

Police said they then responded to a call at Arrowhead Stadium.  “When the officers were pulling up they observed a black male who had a gun to his head and he was talking to a couple of coaches in the parking lot.  As officers began to park that is when they heard a gun shot.  It appears the individual took his own life,” stated Snapp.  Police said the player went to Arrowhead Stadium, where the team was scheduled to practice on Saturday.

Police could not release the name of the player involved, but said he was 25-years-old.  The Chiefs are only confirming an “incident at Arrowhead” so far.  The Chiefs are due to host the Panthers on Sunday.  There has been no official announcement as to whether or not the game will be played.

(Update 10:20 a.m.) – Kansas City Police Supervisor Andrea Khan could not release the name of the player involved, but said he was 25-years-old.  The condition of the two people involved was not immediately known.  The first incident occurred at a home in the 5400 block of Chrysler Avenue.  Investigators said the female was shot multiple times.  Coaches at the practice facility attempted to talk the player down, but when police arrived they reported hearing a gun shot.  We will bring you more information as it becomes available.

(Update 9:50 a.m.) – Police said the unidentified Chiefs player is believed to have shot and killed his girlfriend. He’s then believed to have driven to the Chiefs practice facility and killed himself. The Chiefs have released a statement in regard to the incident:

“We can confirm that there was an incident at Arrowhead earlier this morning. We are cooperating with authorities in their investigation.”
