More than 300 swine premises nationwide have tested positive for Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea Virus. PEDV – which is a production disease – was confirmed in the U.S. for the first time this spring. Pork Checkoff Director of Swine Health Research and Information Dr. Lisa Becton – is reminding pork producers to enhance biosecurity measures.
P-E-D-V is clinically similar to T-G-E. The preventative measures would be similar for both diseases.
Boots, clothing, sort boards and similar equipment should also be cleaned properly. More information on PEDV will be available in the next Pork Checkoff report.
For more information, producers can contact the Pork Checkoff Service Center. Go to www.pork.org or call 800-456-PORK.
