Portion of I-70 reopens early in Jackson County after bridge demolition

UPDATE:  Sunday – I-70 is back open in both directions after road work crews demolished three bridges over the weekend.

The interstate was scheduled be be closed till around 5:00 Monday morning, but MoDOT says construction crews were able to clear the way early.  The Pittman, Crysler, and Phelps Road bridges over I-70, which were demolished over the weekend, were cleared but will continue to be worked on throughout the rest of the year till December.

JACKSON COUNTY, Mo. — There will be a complete closure of Interstate 70 in both directions between I-435 and I-470 beginning at 10 p.m. on Friday, June 8, until approximately 5 a.m. on Monday, June 11.

This closure is for the demolition of the Pittman Road, Crysler Avenue, and Phelps Road bridges over I-70.

The work will have major impacts to traffic. Drivers are encouraged to plan ahead and leave early.

Motorists MUST follow the signed detour using I-470 and I-435, or find an alternate route.
