A Richmond woman will be in a Ray County courtroom Tuesday morning for a criminal setting on the charge of abuse of a child – resulting in death. 24-year-old Rebecca Matthews pleaded not guilty to the charge earlier this year and is being held on $500,000 cash only bond. Matthews is accused of physically injuring her 3-week old child, April Matthews in August. According to the coroner’s report the child died due to blunt force trauma to the chest and internal bleeding. Rebecca Matthews is scheduled to appear at 8:30 a.m.

25-year-old Dennis Matthews was also charged in connection with the death of April Matthews; however, online court records no longer show him charged with abuse of a child resulting in death, and KMZU News has been unable at this time to speak with someone at the 8th Circuit Court to confirm that charge has been dropped. Instead, he will be arraigned this morning at 9 a.m. on multiple bad check charges.

KMZU News will continue to bring you details on these cases as they become available.
