The Saline County Economic Development Corporation is continuing work on a plan that will further enhance the future of the area. Click to hear KMZU’s Kristie Cross talk to executive Director Bill Riggins:
“We’ve been working on an economic development plan for the county since January and we are now trying to get it finalized,” said Riggins,” They have gone through all of the demographics and that kind of thing. The final part looks at how we can restructure certain areas of the county for future growth, expansion and job creation.”
According to Riggins, this is a joint effort across the area. “We’ve pulled the county together where we’ve got Slater, Marshall, Sweet Springs, and the outlying areas all working together for a common cause instead of everyone just trying to promote their own little town. This is important because if we all don’t work together, we can’t draw anything here.”
The plan is expected to be finalized within the next two to three weeks. “The biggest challenge is changing people’s attitudes. Too many people take the “we can’t” attitude instead of the “we well” attitude,” said Riggins.
