Electric companies have seen an on-going wave of scams by phone as well as by email and sometimes in person. The caller will tell the business or homeowner they are past due or owe money on their bill and their service will be disconnected immediately if not paid. Kent Martin, spokesman for Ameren Missouri says the most recent is being called the Green Dot Money Card Scam.
Martin says this is not how they conduct business.
Customers are urged to contact their electric company if they receive any of these calls, emails or if someone approaches them in person with out proper i.d.
