BUCHANAN COUNTY, Mo. – A vehicle fire just South of St. Joseph, caused traffic on southbound Highway 59 to be detoured for several hours yesterday morning.

Fire officials say a faulty brake on a semi trailer caused a load of wood chips to catch on fire. The driver attempted to fight the fire with an extinguisher before calling 911. Several agencies responded to the fire but could not save the tractor and trailer.

Highway 59 was reopened around 1:00 Tuesday afternoon.
