State Fair Community College has been named to the G.I. Jobs list of Military Friendly Schools. Click to hear KMZU’s Sarah Scott speak with Communication and Marketing director Dana Kelchner:
Kelchner says the honor was bestowed on them in part because of the relationship they have with Whiteman Airforce Base. “We’ve had a location there and have been offering classes since 1988, but we’ve really worked hard in the past few years to expand our programing and services for enlisted military members and veterans,” said Kelchner, “This is a designation that we’re really proud of, and it means that we’re meeting the needs of our military in the educational arena.” This award goes to the top 15 percent of higher education facilities that embrace those connected to the military.
Press Release from State Fair Community College
SEDALIA—For the second time, State Fair Community College has been named to the G.I. Jobs Military Friendly Schools list.
The 2013 list honors the top 15 percent of colleges, universities and trade schools that are doing the most to embrace America’s military service members, veterans and spouses as students and ensure their success on campus.
The list was compiled through extensive research during which G.I. Jobs polled more than 12,000 schools nationwide. The 1,739 schools on this year’s list exhibit leading practices in the recruitment and retention of students with military experience.
SFCC has an extended campus location at Whiteman Air Force Base and provides classes for students seeking associate of arts degrees. Classes can be taken online or in the classroom. SFCC is also a General Education Mobile school for Community College of the Air Force and provides the online general education classes for Air Force members worldwide who are working on the AAS degree with CCAF.
Enlisted personnel receive the in-district tuition and fees rate, which is the lowest rate offered. Spouses and dependents of military personnel also can receive the in-district tuition and fees rate.
This fall, 308 veteran and military dependents are enrolled at SFCC.
