SLATER, MO – A former police officer of Slater pleaded guilty this week to felony child endangerment.

The charges originated from November 2016, and were downgraded from 2nd degree sodomy. Information, primarily from witnesses and the defendant, indicated Benjamin Thomas, 30, had been involved in a relationship with a 16-year-old female victim.

Saline County prosecutor, Donald Stouffer said in a press release Wednesday, the victim refused to cooperate with the prosecution. However, Stouffer said he attained his stated goals of requiring Thomas to be registered as a sex offender, and be barred from serving as a police officer. Thomas faces a probationary period of five years.
