Sleepy driver wrecks car Wednesday morning near Savannah

ANDREW COUNTY, Mo. — A driver fell asleep at the wheel and crashed his car in Andrew County Wednesday.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the accident happened on northbound Business 71 about a mile south of Savannah at roughly 7:04 a.m. Wednesday.

A vehicle operated by Jacob L. Diggs, 30, of St. Joseph, was traveling north when Diggs fell asleep at the wheel of his pick-up truck.

The truck then ran off the east side of the road before striking an embankment and becoming airborne and striking the ground.

Diggs and a passenger, 9-year-old Nathaniel W. Diggs, also of St. Joseph, received minor injuries in the crash. They were treated at Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph.
