In High School Baseball, Sacred Heart beat Lincoln in 5 innings 14-0.

Central Michigan offensive tackle Eric Fisher has been selected by the Kansas City Chiefs with the top overall pick in the NFL draft. Fisher became the first player from the Mid-American Conference taken to open the draft. He is the third offensive tackle picked at No. 1 since the 1970 merger.

The St. Louis Rams traded up eight spots with Buffalo to select West Virginia receiver Tavon Austin with the No. 8 overall pick in the NFL draft. The Bills also got the Rams’ second- and seventh-round selections in the deal. St. Louis also selected Georgia linebacker Alec Ogletree with the 30th overall pick.

Alex Gordon’s grand slam in the 10th inning helped the Kansas City Royals defeat the Detroit Tigers 8-3 Thursday night. George Kottaras put the Royals ahead 4-3 in the extra frame with a bases-loaded walk off Phil Coke. Detroit ace Justin Verlander gave up two runs in seven innings before leaving the game with cracked skin on his right thumb.
The Cardinals were idle Thursday.  They open a home series Friday night against the Pittsburg Pirates.
