MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Samuel Deduno pitched seven strong innings last night to lead the Minnesota Twins past the Kansas City Royals 3-1. Justin Morneau hit two doubles and drove in a run for the Twins. Salvador Perez had a solo home run for the Royals.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — Kansas guard Ben McLemore was selected No. 7 overall last night by the Sacramento Kings. Fans inside the Kings’ arena cheered with the pick was made. McLemore broke Danny Manning’s freshman scoring record at Kansas.

PHOENIX (AP) — The Phoenix Suns selected power forward Alex Oriakhi of Missouri in the second round of yesterday’s NBA draft. Oriakhi averaged 11.2 points as a senior with the Tigers last season. He was the 57th player chosen overall.

(Kansas City, MO)  –  Charlie Weis is talking football in KC.  The Kansas head coach wrapped up the KU football tour last night at The Dubliner in the Power & Light District.  It put an exclamation point on a two-month Kansas Football Preview Party.  Weis is entering his second season as coach of the Jayhawks.  Kansas went 1-and-11 last year, including 0-and-9 in the Big 12.

KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) — Sporting Kansas City recalled forward Dom Dwyer from his loan to USL PRO affiliate Orlando City Soccer Club. Dwyer will be available for tomorrow’s game against the Columbus Crew. The 22-year-old scored 18 goals in all competitions for Orlando City during the first half of the season.
