KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Ben McLemore had 24 points yesterday to lead No. 7 Kansas to a 91-63 rout of Texas Tech in the semifinals of the Big 12 tournament. Rio Adams added 11 points for the Jayhawks, who advanced to play Iowa State tonight. Dejan Kravic had 20 points for the Red Raiders.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Rodney McGruder scored 24 points last night as No. 11 Kansas State beat Texas 66-49 in the quarterfinals of the Big 12 tournament. Angel Rodriguez added 13 points for the Wildcats, who went on an 11-0 run in the second half. Julien Lewis had 13 points for the Longhorns.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Alex Oriakhi had 13 points and 10 rebounds last night as Missouri defeated Texas A&M 62-50 in the second round of the Southeastern Conference tournament. Laurence Bowers, Jabari Brown and Tony Criswell each added 10 points for the Tigers. The Aggies shot a season-low 24.1 percent in the game.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) – The Kansas City Chiefs have agreed to terms with cornerback Sean Smith on a three-year deal to help shore up the secondary.  Smith has spent the past four seasons with the Miami Dolphins, starting every game each of the past two years. He has 177 tackles and five interceptions in his career.  The Chiefs have been bold under new general manager John Dorsey and coach Andy Reid, revamping their offense by trading for quarterback Alex Smith and signing wide receiver Donnie Avery, tight end Anthony Fasano and backup quarterback Alex Smith.  They’ve also signed defensive tackle Mike DeVito and veteran cornerback Dunta Robinson.

GOODYEAR, Ariz. — Adam Moore hit two of the Kansas City Royals’ seven doubles and drove in two runs in a 5-3 victory over the Cleveland Indians on Thursday.  Starting catcher Salvador Perez had two hits, including a double. Mike Moustakas, David Lough, Johnny Giavotella and Chris Getz all had doubles.  Jeremy Guthrie pitched four innings, allowing two runs on five hits.

JUPITER, Fla. (AP) — Joe Kelly allowed three hits and one run in four solid innings Thursday to strengthen his claim on the fifth spot in the St. Louis Cardinals’ rotation in a 5-4 win over the Atlanta Braves.  Matt Adams broke a 4-all tie with a two-out single in the bottom of the eighth inning.

MIAMI (AP) — Team USA now has to beat Puerto Rico tonight in Miami to advance to the World Baseball Classic semifinals in San Francisco. The Americans allowed two runs in the ninth inning and lost 3-1 to the Dominican Republic last night, putting the U.S. in an elimination game.

ST. LOUIS (AP) – Rookie Jake Allen earned his first NHL shutout last night in the St. Louis Blues’ 3-0 win over the Phoenix Coyotes. Allen stopped all 28 shots and Chris Stewart scored twice for the Blues, who have won four of their last five. Phoenix goalie Mike Smith finished with 27 saves.
