Jeff Francoeur and Eric Hosmer combined for three RBIs in the ninth inning to help the Kansas City Royals beat the St. Louis Cardinals 4-2 in a game that didn’t end until early this morning. The game was delayed an hour before the first pitch and another 4 hours, 32 minutes in the top of the ninth. Making his major league debut, Cardinals rookie Michael Wacha allowed just one run in seven innings.

Hall of Famer George Brett has been appointed the Royals’ interim hitting coach. The team announced the move before Thursday’s game in St. Louis. Brett has helped the Royals in spring training for years, but has turned down full-time job offers because he didn’t want to deal with the daily grind.
