The Carrollton Lady Trojans were on the road at Richmond Thursday and came away with a 7-4 victory.

The Central Missouri Mules used strong defense to overcome five turnover and defeat previously unbeaten Truman State 38-17 Thursday night at Walton Stadium.

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Carlos Beltran’s tiebreaking two-run double lifted the St. Louis Cardinals to a 5-4 win over the Houston Astros yesterday. Allen Craig added a three-run homer for the Cardinals, who completed a season sweep at home over the Astros. Bud Norris took the loss after giving up five runs in five-plus innings for Houston. The Cardinals are in Chicago this afternoon to open a weekend series against the Cubs. First pitch today at Wrigley Field will be at 1:10.

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Chris Carpenter is set to make his 2012 debut for the St. Louis Cardinals today against the Chicago Cubs. Carpenter hasn’t pitched since winning Game 7 of the World Series against Texas. His return comes less than two months after surgery to relieve a nerve ailment.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Eric Hosmer singled home the game-winning run in the ninth inning last night to give the Kansas City Royals a 4-3 win over the Chicago White Sox. The Royals beat the Sox for the ninth time in their last 11 meetings. A.J. Pierzynski had two hits and drove in a run for the White Sox, who stayed two games ahead of Detroit in the AL Central. The Royals now host a three game set against the Cleveland Indians; first pitch tonight at 7:10.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Royals have signed a four-year contract with the Lexington Legends to replace Kane County (Ill.) as one of their Class A affiliates. The Legends had been affiliated with the Houston Astros since 2001. Lexington takes over for Kane County, which is now part of the Chicago Cubs system.
