UNDATED (AP) — The American League division races now have the Yankees topping the East by just one game over Baltimore, the Tigers two games ahead of the White Sox in the Central and the West-leading Rangers four games in front of Oakland. The Yankees were 6-0 losers in Toronto, the Tigers downed Kansas City 5-4, the White Sox fell 3-2 to Tampa Bay and the Rangers outscored the Athletics 9-7.

BALTIMORE (AP) — Gene Steratore’s officiating crew was the first to work an NFL game since the league ended its lockout and reached a tentative contract agreement with the referees’ union. M&T Bank Stadium erupted in cheers last night after Steratore brought the captains of the Browns and Ravens together for the coin toss, turned on his microphone and said, “Good evening men. It’s good to be back.” Commissioner Roger Goodell apologized to the fans yesterday for putting them through the work stoppage, but he also played down how much the Green Bay-Seattle game played into the final agreement.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Justin Houston is emerging as a sack master. Houston already has four sacks through the first three weeks of the season. He will try to keep the momentum going this Sunday against San Diego.

ST. LOUIS (AP) — St. Louis Rams running back Steven Jackson didn’t practice for a second straight day yesterday. Jackson is nursing a nagging groin injury. Rookie Daryl Richardson has been getting work in practice while Jackson looks on.
