(Chicago, IL) — All-Star pitcher Adam Wainwright got his first win since July 21st as the Cardinals topped the Cubs 6-1. Wainwright allowed only a run on five hits and struck out 11 in seven innings. He’s 14-and-7. Jon Jay hit a three-run home run and drove in four. The Cardinals have won three of their last four games. The Red Birds will try to keep pace with the first-place Pittsburgh Pirates when they open a three-game series against the Milwaukee Brewers tonight. The Cards trail the Pirates by a game in the NL Central standings with a 71-and-52 record.

(Detroit, MI) — Max Scherzer tossed eight innings of two-run ball as the Tigers doubled up the Royals 6-3. Billy Butler belted a solo homer and scored twice for Kansas City. Bruce Chen gave up six runs over five-and-a-third frames for his first loss of the season. The Royals and White Sox begin a three-game set tomorrow.

(Boston, MA) — Yankees manager Joe Girardi was ejected from Sunday night’s game against the Boston Red Sox. Girardi got tossed after Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez was hit with a pitch by Ryan Dempster. Girardi came sprinting out of the dugout to argue with home plate umpire Brian O’Nora after Dempster threw a few pitches at A-Rod before finally plunking him.

Adam Eaton’s two-out, two-run double in the top of the 16th inning lifted the Diamondbacks past the Pirates 4-2 in the rubber match of a three-game series.

(Undated) — Former Major League Baseball MVP Miguel Tejada [[ teh-HAH-duh ]] has been suspended 105 games without pay for violating the league’s Joint Drug and Prevention Program. Tejada tested positive for an amphetamine. He has previously tested positive twice for Adderall. The Kansas City Royals infielder is currently on the 60-day disabled list with a strained calf.

(Kansas City, MO) — Quintin Demps returned a kickoff 104 yards for a touchdown as the Kansas City Chiefs lost 15-13 to the San Francisco 49ers on Friday. Alex Smith was 7-for-16 with 62 yards against his former team in defeat. Knile Davis led the team with 37 yards rushing and 31 yards receiving. The Chiefs play the Steelers on Saturday.

(St. Louis, MO) — The Rams lost 19-7 to Green Bay in preseason action at the Edward Jones Dome Saturday. St. Louis is now 0-and-2 in the preseason. The Rams are in Denver to play the Broncos next Saturday.

(Brooklyn, MI) — Joey Logano received a boost in his Chase hopes by winning Sunday’s Pure Michigan 400 at Michigan International Speedway. Logano sat on the pole and drove to his third career Sprint Cup Series victory while moving up to third in the wild card rankings. Kevin Harvick finished second, followed by Kurt Busch, Paul Menard and Clint Bowyer. Jimmie Johnson continues to lead the standings by 41 points over Bowyer. Next week the series heads to Bristol for a Saturday night race.
