ST. LOUIS (AP) — St. Louis Cardinals fans gathered outside Busch Stadium to remember Stan Musial. The Hall of Famer died Saturday at the age of 92. Despite near-freezing temperatures yesterday, dozens of fans congregated around the larger of the two Musial statues. The team’s awaiting word from Musial’s family on arrangements for a formal tribute.
ATLANTA (AP) — Frank Gore rushed for two touchdowns yesterday as the San Francisco 49ers rallied to beat the Atlanta Falcons 28-24 and advance to the Super Bowl. The 49ers rebounded from a 17-0 deficit to make their first Super Bowl for the first time since 1995. Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan threw for 396 yards and three TDs in a losing effort.
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) — Joe Flacco threw two touchdown passes to Anquan Boldin yesterday as the Baltimore Ravens beat the New England Patriots 28-13 to advance to the Super Bowl. Dennis Pitta also caught a TD pass as the Ravens outscored the Patriots 21-0 in the second half. Baltimore coach John Harbaugh and San Francisco coach Jim Harbaugh will face off in the first Super Bowl coached by brothers.
