MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Trevor Plouffe homered twice yesterday to lead the Minnesota Twins to a 10-8 win over the Kansas City Royals. Josh Willingham and Drew Butera also went deep for the Twins. Royals starter Bruce Chen took the loss after giving up six earned runs in five-plus innings.
The Royals are in Toronto tonight to take on the Blue Jays at 6:07.

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Allen Craig and Yadier Molina each homered yesterday in the St. Louis Cardinals’ 5-4 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates. St. Louis avoided getting swept in a three-game series at home by Pittsburgh for the first time since 1991. Closer Jason Motte recorded the last four outs for his 17th save.
The Redbirds host the Colorado Rockies tonight at 7:15.

NEW YORK (AP) – Dodgers outfielder Matt Kemp has asked St. Louis’ Carlos Beltran, Colorado’s Carlos Gonzalez and Miami’s Giancarlo Stanton to join him on the NL side of the home run derby. Kemp made the invitations yesterday. The event takes places next Monday at Kauffman Stadium.

ST. LOUIS (AP) – Cardinals outfielder Carlos Beltran and shortstop Rafael Furcal were voted in as starters on the National League squad for the All-Star game. Starting pitcher Lance Lynn and catcher Yadier Molina also made the roster. Kansas City’s lone representative is designated hitter Billy Butler.

The Missouri 8-Man Football Coaches Association will be hosting its fourth annual Missouri 8-Man Football Senior All Star Game on Saturday, July 7, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. at William Jewell College in Liberty.
40 of the state’s top 8-Man senior football players have been invited to participate in this event. They will report Thursday, July 5th to William Jewell College and practice for three days as a member of either the Blue or Red team before the event.
The teams will be coached by area 8-Man football coaches from the eight teams that made the state playoffs last Fall. Coach Chuck Borey of Worth County is the head coach of the Blue Team. He is assisted by Dan Collins of Stanberry, Tyler Anderson of Southwest Ludlow and Caleb Crooker of Northwest (Hughesville). The Red Team is led by head coach Brian Messer of Mound City. He is assisted by Dana Dill of South Holt, Kurt Thacker of Hardin-Central, and Mark Juhl of St. Joseph Christian. The teams were “drafted” by the coaches; thereby pitting previous teammates against one another in certain instances.
Admission is $7.00 per person. Gates open up at 5:00 p.m. T-shirts, full color programs and DVDs of the game will be for sale throughout the contest.
