UNDATED (AP) – The NCAA regional semifinals will include 15th seed Florida Golf Coast. Bernard Thompson scored 23 points and Sherwood Brown added 17 as FGCU beat San Diego State 81-71 to become the first No. 15 seed to advance this far in the tournament.

UNDATED (AP) – Top seeds Indiana and Kansas have reached the NCAA regional semifinals. Jeff Withey’s 16 points and 16 rebounds led the Jayhawks past North Carolina 70-58 after Victor Olapido (oh-lah-PEE’-dohz) provided 16 points in the Hoosiers’ 58-52 triumph over Temple. In yesterday’s other NCAA games, Florida beat Minnesota 78-64, Ohio State downed Iowa State 78-75, Miami got past Illinois 63-59 and Duke ousted Creighton 66-50.

LOS ANGELES (AP) – UCLA has fired basketball coach Ben Howland following 10 seasons with the Bruins, a span that included three Final Four appearances but culminated with another early-round exit from the NCAA tournament. Howland had a 233-107 record in Westwood, including three consecutive Final Four appearances from 2006-08 and four Pac-12 championships.

GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) — Alex Gordon hit his fifth home run of spring training to lead the Kansas Royals to an 8-2 victory over the Chicago White Sox yesterday. Royals starter Jeremy Guthrie had eight strikeouts over six solid innings. Alejandro De Aza homered for the White Sox.

JUPITER, Fla. (AP) — A New York Mets split squad beat the St. Louis Cardinals 10-7 yesterday in spring training. Jamie Hoffman and Zach Lutz both hit two-run homers for the Mets. Jon Jay went 3 for 3 with two RBIs for the Cardinals.
