In High School Softball, the I-70 Tournament is over. Sweet Springs is the Champion after a 1-0 eight-inning win over Crest Ridge. Concorida took 3rd place with a 9-5 win over Santa Fe and Wellington-Napoleon received the consolation with a 12-6 win over St. Paul.
Three MIAA Baseball squads will make the trip the NCAA Central Regional starting next week in Mankato, Minn. Missouri Southern, who won the MIAA Tournament Championship yesterday, will open the tournament as the six seed against top seed Minnesota State-Mankato. Central Missouri earns the second seed in the field and will face off with St. Cloud State from the Northern Sun Conference. Missouri Western who won the MIAA regular season title will play as the fourth seed and will open against third seeded Southern Arkansas. Dates and times for the tournament games will be released Tuesday.
Robinson Cano and Vernon Wells homered Sunday to lead the New York Yankees past the Kansas City Royals 4-2. Yankees starter Hiroki Kuroda won for the fifth time in his last six decisions. Alex Gordon hit a sacrifice fly and Alcides Escobar had an RBI groundout to drive in the Royals’ runs. KC at the L-A Angels tonight.
Troy Tulowitzki hit a three-run homer Sunday in the Colorado Rockies’ 8-2 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals. Tulowitzki’s home run ended the Rockies’ scoreless streak at 28 innings. Jaime Garcia took the loss for St. Louis after giving up five runs in six innings. The Cardinals have placed right-hander Jake Westbrook on the 15-day disabled list with elbow inflammation. Redbirds host NY Mets tonight.
