SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Carlos Beltran and David Freese both homered last night to lead the St. Louis Cardinals past the San Francisco Giants 6-4 in Game 1 of the NL championship series. After starter Lance Lynn struggled, the Cardinals bullpen delivered five-plus scoreless innings. Game 2 of the best-of-seven series is tonight in San Francisco.

MIAMI (AP) — Ryan Tannehill threw two touchdown passes yesterday as the Miami Dolphins beat the St. Louis Rams 17-14. The Dolphins scored 17 straight points in the second and third quarter to improve to 3-3 on the year. Rams kicker Greg Zuerlein made two field goals in the first quarter, then missed three attempts in a row.

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Josh Freeman threw for 328 yards and three touchdowns yesterday in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ 38-10 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs. Ronde Barber scored on a 78-yard interception return for the Bucs. Chiefs quarterback Brady Quinn was picked off twice in his first start in nearly three years.

(Concord, NC)  –  Clint Bowyer won Saturday night’s Bank of America 500 in Charlotte.  Bowyer held off Denny Hamlin in the final laps and moved within 28 points of Brad Keselowski for the top spot in the Chase for the Championship.  The Chase heads to Kansas on Sunday.
