ST. LOUIS (AP) — The Washington Nationals beat the defending World Series champion St. Louis Cardinals 3-2 in an NL playoff opener. The Nationals overcame a wild start by Gio Gonzalez in their postseason debut, then watched their bullpen shut down St. Louis in the late innings.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Baltimore Ravens’ defense kept the Kansas City Chiefs out of the end zone in the fourth quarter to get a 9-6 victory. Matt Cassel threw for 92 yards, was intercepted twice and credited with two lost fumbles before leaving in the fourth quarter with what the Chiefs described as a head injury.

(Kansas City, MO)  —  Kansas City Chiefs offensive lineman Eric Winston didn’t hold back his feelings about the home fans at Arrowhead Stadium following Sunday’s 9-6 loss to the Baltimore Ravens.  Winston blasted the crowd for cheering when quarterback Matt Cassel exited the game with a head injury.  Cassel was later diagnosed with a concussion.  Winston said fans should be ashamed if they applauded any injury.  He added that NFL players work hard and that people need to recognize that they play a dangerous game that carries risks.
