From the 84th annual New Franklin tournament last (Fri) night the Sweet Springs girls got a win over Pilot Grove 51 – 48.  Nicole Bright had 19 points for Sweet Springs.  Kerigan Wessing of Pilot Grove led all scorers with 21.  On the boys side Pilot Grove grabbed a 63 – 58 victory against the hosting New Franklin team.  Mason Schlotehauer had 26 points for Pilot Grove.  Tyler and Tanner White along with Tyler Hull each had 16 points apiece for New Franklin.

The girls 7:30 matchup from last night was scheduled to be Tipton vs. Westran.  That game was moved to January 2nd at 1:30.  The original schedule called for the Tipton boys to take on Westran at 9 last night.  Their matchup will now be played on the 2nd at 3 p.m.

Central Florida had no problems with Ball State, cruising to a 38-17 win in the Beef ‘O’ Brady’s Bowl from St. Petersburg, Florida.  Blake Bortles threw for 271 yards and three touchdowns while rushing for 79 yards and a score.  The Knights ran for 224 yards as a team as they finished the season at 10-and-4.  Keith Wenning threw for 218 yards with two touchdowns for Ball State.  Jahwan Edwards had 89 yards rushing while Willie Snead finished with 78 receiving yards a two TDs for the Cardinals, who ended their year at 9-and-4.

NEW YORK (AP) — Syracuse is the highest ranked team in action today in men’s college basketball. The third-ranked Orange are facing Temple at Madison Square Garden. Syracuse enters the game with a record of 10-0.

UNDATED (AP) — There are two games in men’s college basketball with two ranked teams participating today. In Columbus, Ohio, seventh-ranked Ohio State is playing host to No. 9 Kansas, while 10th-ranked Illinois is playing No. 12 Missouri in St. Louis.

DETROIT (AP) — The Detroit Lions are hosting the Atlanta Falcons this evening. Detroit has a mark of 4-10 while the Falcons, who have clinched the NFC South, are 12-2.

UNDATED (AP) — Two bowl games are on the agenda today. East Carolina is playing Louisiana-Lafayette in the New Orleans Bowl, while the MAACO Bowl in Las Vegas has Boise State facing Washington.

UNDATED (AP) — There is a nine-game schedule in the NBA this evening. Miami will attempt to gain ground on the Knicks for best overall record in the East. The Heat are playing host to Utah this evening while the Knicks have the night off.
