SOCHI, Russia (AP) — The U.S. will take on Finland for the bronze medal in men’s hockey at Sochi later today. The Americans were knocked out of gold-medal contention by losing to Canada 1-0 yesterday, the first loss of the tournament for the U.S.

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — When it comes to sorting out the Big 12 basketball title, it doesn’t get much more pivotal than today’s game in Lawrence, Kan. Should the Kansas Jayhawks win, they’ll have a three-game lead, all but wrapping it up. But a road win by the Texas Longhorns would put them just one game off the pace. Kansas has won or tied for nine consecutive conference championships.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — If Brandon Albert returns as the Kansas City Chiefs left tackle, he likely won’t be wearing the franchise tag again. In fact, general manager John Dorsey says he doesn’t anticipate using the tag to keep any of the team’s free agents. Albert and Pro Bowl punt returner Dexter McCluster headline the free agents to be.

SURPRISE, Ariz. (AP) — Third baseman Mike Moustakas and his likely backup, Danny Valencia, both have agreed to contract terms with the Kansas City Royals. They were among seven players not yet eligible for arbitration on major league contracts who reached deals with the team yesterday. Righty reliever Louis Coleman also was on that list.

SURPRISE, Ariz. (AP) — Centerfielder Lorenzo Cain’s primary mission for the Royals this season: stay healthy. He’s been pigeonholed with the “injury prone” marker ever since arriving in Kansas City. The speedy outfielder has been limited the past two seasons by various injuries, most of them picked up making spectacular catches against the outfield wall.
